Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)

Got a chance to take a good friend to a showing of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street for his birthday and really enjoyed the film. The music by Stephen Sondheim was fantastic and a significant departure from Tim Burton's regular collaborator Danny Elfman. I was surprised by Johnny Depp's ability to sing and Sacha Baron Cohen as a rival barber was a treat.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

Let me say this about the new Nightmare on Elm Street: It's scary. Not only is it conventionally scary, with several jump-out-of-your-skin moments, but it is very, very creepy. Not having seen the original, I can't compare the two, but my guess is that this version pays more attention to Freddy Krueger's origins.
