Panzer General II
By SSI

Requirements:

Windows 95
90 MHz Pentium or higher
16 MB RAM
4X CD-ROM
Multiplayer: 2-4 players, Internet, LAN, play-by-e-mail

Damn! I wish those dive-bombers would just go away, where is my fighter cover. I need the infantry to follow in close support to my armor and my artillery to pound holes in the enemy's lines so my ground forces can advance. To top it off the opposing forces are putting up a rugged defense. Will we advance or are we doomed?

Well my friend that all depends on you. If you are a strategy buff such as me, then I know you will be very impressed with this game. Remember the scene in every generic WWII movie where there was the big map, soldiers with long sticks pushing models around and generals dictating where the forces should be deployed. That's essentially what you are doing in this game. Sounds simple eh! That couldn't be more further from the truth.

To be successful you have to know battlefield tactics,
logistics, enemy strengths and weaknesses and lots of other key elements. I would highly recommend reading the manual and studying each unit, if you are not familiar with WWII battlefield strategy. Over time warfare tactics have changed, battlefield tactics, which are successful today, would probably be downright suicidal if used in the past, and vice versa. So if you think you are a hot shot at current day war sims, come on play this I dare ya.

This game is a true strategy game; there is no brain candy here. The graphics and sound are fairly simple. This is a thinking man's game. The game play takes place on historically accurate battlefields, 30 in all. From the beaches of Normandy to the Russian Front. SSI has done an excellent job of recreating famous battlefields. You can play as any of the forces, German, Russian, British and American; each force has their own unique strengths and weaknesses.

Now to the fun part, multiplayer. As far as I'm concerned
any game and I mean any game is more fun to play against
another person, or persons, than a computer opponent. Up
to 4 players can play on a lan, modem or via the web. I am
having the most fun playing head to head on the web at
www.mplayer.com, there is a good PGII community there.
Although I find the site to be quite buggy it's a good place to play. In fact I've entered a tournament there, it's being
organized by "Todd W (romano)" gladiatori@home.com, a
player who loves the game and is willing to do a lot of hard
work so other people can have fun. An example of the kind of people you can expect to find on this site. You won't find a bunch of immature name calling geeks here.

All in all a definite joystick up from me. This game is a must for any strategy buff.
