Developer: Hasbro Interactive
Distributer: Hasbro Interactive

Requirements:

IBM or compatible PC; 486 SX or higher processor; CD ROM drive: 4MB of available RAM; hand disk with 5MB of free disk space; 640 X 480 256-colour SVGA graphics; Microsoft Windows 95; Windows - compatible sound card; mouse.

To start I can tell you this game isn't for everybody. The lower levels of most of the games in Smart Games Challenge 1 would appeal to some younger children. But most seasoned gamers would be able to beat the entertaining games in a few hours. I'm a strategy /RPG/ Action fan and I thought that the most entertaining game was CAR JAM. If you don't like strategy or educational games Smart Games isn't for you, but if you are a card game fan, i.e. solitaire, it's for you.

Da Story

There isn't really a story to Smart Games it is pretty much a collection of educational games / puzzles with some nice audio and visual touches.

Da Graphics

Not much to say here, the graphics during game play are a lot like click and play games. Nice backgrounds behind the play area and the game icons are somewhat 3D and aren't bad. The introduction movie has good graphics, it is five spheres and a triangle combining to make the Hasbro interactive logo.

Da Sound

This game has lots of nice sound effects and continuous music during game play. Although some sound effects can get rather annoying, they do add a nice touch to the gameplay with a "congratulations" after solving a puzzle.

Da GamePlay

Many of the games in Smart Games are math related, but some are confusing. Take Generations for example, I carefully followed the instructions (which were very hard to understand) and I still couldn't pass the first level!
There are some other strange games too, like World Series and Number Series. These two games are very hard but some of the higher levels of Cryptograms are next to impossible to solve and would take hours to solve if not days. Some of the other games require much less brain power and are much more entertaining to play, like Car Jam and Warehouse.

Da Conclusion

If you don't like strategy or educational games Smart Games isn't for you, but if you like to play puzzle or card games then you would like this game. The simpler puzzle and word play games would appeal to younger children.

3 out of 5 Joysticks for Puzzle fans.

1 out of 5 for Strat and RPG folks.
