Rhythm Heaven Fever

Platform: Nintendo Wii
Category: Rhythm

iam8bit held a launch party for the Wii's Rhythm Heaven Fever last night in Los Angeles, and I had the pleasure to attend. Rhythm Heaven Fever is the third game in the series. Like its predecessors, it tasks players with performing simple actions at set times, keeping with the rhythm.

The game features colorful, happy graphics all the time. In fact, it's like pure happiness in game form. If you're ever feeling depressed, play some Rhythm Heaven Fever. The music, as can be expected, is great. I found myself tapping my foot and bobbing my head constantly. Rhythm Heaven Fever features a collection of minigames, each with its own rules. They all involved pressing 'A' or pressing 'A' and 'B' at the same time. Of course, you had to do it to the rhythm as well. Some examples of games are playing badminton between two planes, stabbing peas with a fork, defending wildlife from stray balls, and even high-fiving monkeys that sit around the face of a clock (*deep breath*) with your monkey that's riding the second hand (that's a weird one to explain). The game also features "remixes," which are levels that incorporate the gameplay of many previous levels. The only big addition to the series in Rhythm Heaven Fever is a multiplayer mode that, unfortunately, wasn't playable at the event.

If anyone's interested in the launch party itself, it was a blast. It was open to the public on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. It was completely free and offered, in addition to gameplay time, free food and drinks, free t-shirts, a raffle for art, and a photo booth with props. If you like gaming, live in Los Angeles, and enjoy going out to have a good time, keep your eyes open for iam8bit.

What did I think of Rhythm Heaven Fever? It was a blast. Fans of the previous games should know exactly what to expect because the formula doesn't change too much. Luckily, the formula is fantastic and works even better on a large screen with multiple people. I can't wait to play more.
