Some of us at DA GAMEBOYZ love our fantasy, so when we kear about games like Rune we get so excited it's hard to get any work done. The good news is, unlike a lot of other highly anticipated games, this one's coming out this year, hopefully in the fall. Here's the low down from the Human Head website:

Rune, from Human Head Studios, Incorporated, in partnership with Epic Games, is a 3D action game of heroic fantasy action based on the mythology of the Viking peoples. Rune is slated for a release in late 2000 using an enhanced version of the Unreal Engine. Player's take on the role of Ragnar the Viking, a young warrior about to enter into manhood and take his rightful place next to his father as a warrior of his village. As Ragnar, players will enter a mythic realm based on the myths and legends of the Viking peoples and the unique creative minds of Human Head Studios

Under the world of the surface dwellers a world of epic proportions awaits. Rune is a game of epic melee and exploration. You will explore vast regions from the cavernous underworld, home to unspeakable horrors that stalk the darkness, to the mountains of the Dark Vikings and into the forests that guard the entrance to the realms of the Dwarves and beyond. The game will focus on melee combat, with players using swords, axes, knives and clubs in their quest to solve the secret of the Dark Vikings, who have begun a savage campaign to wipe out the their Viking brethren

As a 3rd person action game, players will see the equipment and weapons that Ragnar carries as he explores the beautiful scenery of Nordic legend. As Ragnar you will be able to take the weapons of those you vanquish, increasing your inventory as you near your goal. You will have to think carefully, however, as you will only be able to take what you can carry, and discretion may sometimes be the better part of valor when facing the horrific abominations that populate the underworld. You will even be able to use makeshift weapons, such as a torch, rock, bone or even the limb of your adversaries.

WEAPONS UPDATE

Rune is slated for worldwide release in 2000 for the PC and Macintosh platforms. (Other versions have not yet been announced).

Rune is to be published by Gathering of Developers.

Support for 3DNow!, Glide, Direct3D and OpenGL will be included. (Mac will support Rave and Glide)
