So you’ve got multiple rooms in your home, one stereo system and 200 gigs of music. How are you supposed to spread all that music through out your home without tearing apart walls and ceilings? EOS wireless Converge is an excellent solution to that problem. Utilizing Wi-Fi, the EOS Converge system stream’s your MP3’s wirelessly to any room or stereo system in your home. The EOS wireless Converge solution has several components and everything revolves around a transmitter ($99)and receiver ($99). There is also an amplified receiver ($149), Book Shelf Speakers ($99) and amplified wireless speaker ($199)available. At the simplest level you will need a transmitter and receiver for streaming from your PC/MAC/iPod or iPhone to your stereo system. To stream audio to other rooms and areas outside of your home there are a couple of options available. Option A-Use a transmitter, amplified receiver and a set of bookshelf speakers. If you don’t have a set of bookshelf speakers EOS has a nice set of bookshelf speakers. Option B- Transmit audio to EOS wireless amplified speakers. The EOS wireless speakers are a single plastic case housing a pair of speakers, antenna and amplifier. Portability is key here; its compact design allows you to take music anywhere. Inside or outside of your house. Especially handy for impromptu gatherings, BBQ's and workshops. I tested the speakers in various areas, inside and outside, of our home. Performance can be split into two main categories. Wireless and Speaker Performance Wireless EOS claims that you can transmit a signal up to 150’, through walls and floors. In my particular circumstance i found this to be true. Most home are built using similar construction techniques. IF your home is a log home or has cement floors transmission distance might be reduced. We have a fire pit in our front yard which is approximately 100 feet from the transmitter. Sound quality was the same at 100 feet as it was at 10 feet. I also dragged my laptop around with me to see if there was any degradation in my homes Wi-Fi data network. I didn’t notice any drop in bandwidth traffic when using both my laptop and the EOS system. EOS Speaker performance First the wireless speakers. You need to remember these are wireless speakers. If you want to shake the neighbors windows these aren’t for you. They are designed for filler, background and ambiance. If you want background music while roasting marshmallows, in your workshop, in your dining room or outdoors at a family BBQ these speakers will come in extremely handy. The main drawback i found was the lack of battery power. They do require AC power and a battery powered feature would be a nice addition for outdoor usage. EOS Bookshelf Speakers The EOS bookshelf speakers fill up a small room quite well. They are reasonably priced at $100. We used these speakers in our living room and kitchen. They performed very well and had us dancing away while making dinner on several occasions. Installation Installation is a snap. It’s a true plug and play environment. Plug the transmitter in (USB) turn on the speakers or receiver and voila you’re listening to your MP3 collection. Overall The EOS Converge system works well at all levels. I didn’t have any problems transmitting within a 150 radius of the transmitter and it didn’t slow down my Wi-Fi network by any great degree. I've heard it can do this but my network at home is pretty fast and set-up well. Can't speak for others but my home network handles it no problem. It brought music to areas ,inside and outside, of my home that traditionally didn't have any. This comes in handy for those backyard BBQ’s, impromptu house parties, toiling in my in work shed and family get togethers. The EOS speakers, wired and wireless, performed well. Both are designed for different environments and both performed well in these environments. If you're looking for ways to add sound to your home i highly recommend the EOS Converge array of wireless audio products. They are simple and easy to install , sound excellent and most importantly are easy on the pocket book.
