In TimeSplitters, players maneuver characters through levels spanning a century from 1935 to 2035. A disparate bunch of human heroes and villains find they share a common foe in the title characters. This evil race, roused from an ancient sleep, manipulate the fate of humanity using shards of crystal to sow fear, greed and conflict throughout history.
The game is a redesign of the popular first-person shooter genre which echoes the addictive, frantic action of Doom with game play easier than Unreal Tournament and Quake 3. The arcade action takes place in numerous gameplay styles including deathmatch, capture the bag, and last stand scenarios. A mapmaker allows players to create their own deathmatch levels.
TimeSplitters enables gamers to engage in 1-player, 2-player (co-operative and competitive), 3-player and 4-player split-screen battles.
"TimeSplitters may well be one of the first great shooters for the PlayStation 2 game console," predicted Mike McGarvey, COO, Eidos Interactive. "We are confident that the combination of the programming talent of Free Radical and the power of the PlayStation 2 will put this game in a league all it's own."
