Developer – Skip Ltd Publisher - Nintendo Features 1 player Memory card 6 blocks WARNING! This game is addictive and you may become consumed from Chibi-mania causing you to ignore all other important events. If symptoms continue consult a Nintendo representative. Okay, I may be going overboard with the addictiveness of the game, but it's just so fun I felt it only fair to warn you. When playing this game you control a little house-cleaning robot named Chibi-Robo, hence the title, whose goal is to please the Sanderson family to such an extent that you reach the number one happiness rank to become Super Chibi-Robo. To accomplish this task you will work along side your flying pal Telly Vision in an effort to make this dream come true. Everything seems normal until a strange noise coming from the basement sparks curiosity amongst them, only to lead to one crazy adventure. Graphics Chibi-Robo's graphics pay a lot of attention to little details. Such things as the shine on the floor, the reflection in the windows, and the sheen on Chibi-Robo himself are just a few examples of the detail that Skip Ltd. put into this game. Chibi-Robo is also full of bright colours that catch your eye and keep your visual senses occupied while you play. As you explore the various levels it is very evident that one will want to dart to the next image in an effort to further explore the visuals in this game. This is one of the ways that the developer keeps the player interested. On a bit of a negative side the overall style of the game is similar to that of the N64, the people are all a bit blocky, but other than that the graphics are not to shabby at all. Sound Chibi-Robo has a wide range of sounds as he makes all kinds of cute noises as he walks, runs, jumps, and cleans. What caught my attention were such things like when he walks around the house. For example, when Chibi-Robo walks over the hard floor his feet make a sound like a xylophone, however when he walks on a carpeted surface it makes a sound like an accordion. Finally when he uses his items, they play pleasant tunes like a guitar or a piano. Moving on from Chibi's personal music, the game has its own background music. This music doesn't change depending on what room he's in and it only really changes when it switches from day to night or during a special event. Other music changes that are noticeable are all when you talk to all the toys who populate this game and when when you fight spydorz. Overall this game has good sound and you won't be disappointed. Gameplay It is my humble opinion that this is an awesome playing game. You play Chibi-Robo, the little robot who could. He cooks, he cleans, and he exterminates annoying robots called Spydorz. Originally the Spydorz were designed to be Chibi-Robo's friends but the company reprogrammed them to eliminate its competition, Chibi-Robo. There are a wide variety of rooms Chibi-Robo can visit and some of these rooms are the kitchen, the living room, the foyer and the bedroom. Each room has it's own style and colour scheme. Yes, the rooms are entirely colour co-ordinated, the foyer is purple, and the living room is green and so-forth. I have to be suspicious of the game's creators; it appears to be created by parents that want their kids to be tidy and clean up messes and this game is a way to show them how to do it. I started to notice little pieces of real garbage lying around the house and I felt compelled to "put refuse in the proper reciprocal" to quote Telly Vision. Bandai must be masterminds of the highest degree to get this kind of subliminal message by the ESA. Okay, getting back to real life, and the actual gameplay, there are a wide variety of items that Chibi-Robo will acquire as he continues his quest for glory. These tools are actually just normal items too us, but to Chibi-Robo they are his greatest weapons. Every day items such as a toothbrush or spoon will become Chibi-Robo's broom and shovel. Of course those are just some of the items he will receive and there are more tools to find so he can clean up the virtual trash heap in this game. Don't go thinking that you just clean in this game. There is a large amount of mini-games and side quests that will keep you busy. These range from helping the family with their domestic problems to helping aliens find their friend Giga-Robo as Chibi-Robo is a master of brining joy to all. Throughout the game you will obtain a bunch of different costumes too that Chibi-Robo can wear. Each of these costumes has its own special ability that can be preformed by pressing the "Z button". The first one you will most likely find is the "Drake Redcrest suit" which you will get from the toy of the same name. I personally like the "Ghost suit" because you can scare people. You wil find that there are quite a few costumes to find and I am sure that you will come across one that will be your favorite Conclusion I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed Chibi-Robo as it has a wide range of minigames and side quests that made it a game with more to do. It has memorable characters that also help to make it a good game, from a dysfunctional family to a nectar addicted teddy-bear named sunshine. Nintendo really seems to have a knack at putting games on the Gamecube that are very enjoyable and Chibi-Robo is just such a game. I know you'll enjoy this game as it has just the right mix of ingredients to make it a good platform game.
